The Mill Valley Film Festival is gearing up for its 38th year! The event will run Thursday, October 8 to Sunday, October 18, 2015 to recognize the best in independent and world cinema. We’re talking about an outstanding list of movies that feature films that are already stirring some Oscar buzz for next year. Attendees will be making their way to Marin County in California for movie premieres, panel discussions and musical performances.

With so much to do in so little time, here are a few of the scheduled events we highly suggest you should attend!

OPENING NIGHT – The Danish Girl

Someone hand Eddie Redmayne his second Oscar in a row! This is a highly talked about movie since the day it was announced Redmayne would be portraying artist Einar Wegener who underwent a sex-change operation in the early 1900s. Academy Award winner director Tom Hooper will be in attendance as well.

Heart Like a Hand Grenade

If The Danish Girl sells out right away, Bay Area locals and punk rock fans alike will enjoy the documentary based on Bay Area natives Green Day’s time while recording their huge hit album American Idiot.

SPOTLIGHT – Sarah Silverman

The hilarious comedian that is Sarah Silverman will be in attendance to receive a MVFF Award in honor of her outstanding career and breakout performance. In addition to the award ceremony, Silverman’s latest flick, I Smile Back, will be screening beforehand.

STAR WARS: Return of the Jedi

Sure, you’ve seen the movies probably too many times to count but what’s better than getting prepared for release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens than watching the preceding chapter on the big screen? Did we forget to mention that there will be a post-screening Q&A session with some “special guests”? WHO CAN THEY BE?

CLOSING NIGHT – Suffragette

Another highly talked about movie starring Academy Award Nominated actress Carey Mulligan & Helena Bonham Carter and Academy Award Winner actress Meryl Streep. You know, THE Meryl Streep. Anything that Streep is in is pure gold so… There’s that. Just in case you’re unfamiliar with the film, the story follows “women who were foot soldiers in the fight for the right to vote in the early 20th century, ordinary women who risked their jobs, homes, children and even their lives.”

Trust us, there are so many more things to do and check out. We barely hit the surface with the Mill Valley Film Festival.
